  • I’m all for open discussions. But I’m also very keen on respecting positions and being careful about affecting the effectiveness of a person/institution to perform duties. In a nutshell, “honesty” in radio personalities in Kenya has proven to be more shock value, sensationalist, with no research done and no boundaries respected. I’m all for it, done correctly. Once I listened to Caroline Mutoko, and the only reason she still has a job is because she does not work for me. This is completely a personal opinion, of course, but radio is a medium that reaches the majority and I feel it should be used correctly, accurately and investemnt into research for sensitive material should be encouraged if not demanded.

I think Caroline Mutoko is very good at her morning show. She has set out her style, despite the shock value, that is unique for Kenya.

in a country where grapevine is superior to tabloid (i’d rather hear about the bedroom shenanigans of so and so over the grapevine than read it in a sleazy tabloid or worse hear it on the radio) and where the mainstream media has largely stayed way clear of sleaze for so long, i find it rather uncomfortable when presenters like CM blur the line in a bid to boost ratings with the reasoning “we only say what people want to hear”. (err, i may want to hear, but from the local gossip (mostly the local shopkeeper), or some random stranger in the matatu, thank you very much, not from a supposedly soure of news). i find it utterly distressing that kenyan media is moving distinctly to tabloid (even the nation is not immune to printing sensational (non newsworthy)stories- whats that garbage printed on sundays about non celebs getting pissed!!). but why am i complaining, i exercised my democratic right to choice and stopped listening a long time ago. the time is right for a serious broadsheet that does fantastic and indepth analysis of news, current affairs and stuff. anyone for editor?

I have learnt that Caroline MUTOKO DOES NOT EXACTLY MAKE HER MONEY DUE TO PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS BUT SIMPLY BECAUSE SHE DOES HER THINGS THE WAY KENYANS WANT THEM DONE. vULGAR, DIRTY AND OFFENSIVE. IT IS A PROBLEM OF THE SOCIETY I DON’T BLAME HER

everytime i wake up in the morning i switch to kiss fm. caro’s programme kind of gives me the energy to start the day.talk of the fun, winning some cash, news and what i like most is their crticism on everyone whether its the government, politicians, the rich, criminals and help to people get justice in this country of ours-kenya.Tune in to kiss fm and be awitness.

  • :smile:hey carol you are so nice i enjoy your voice baby when you are talk throung the air.love to you i’m a zimbabwean see you carol sweet dreams

  • michael

love to you carol pliz reply

  • I think kiss 100 should be a Natinal Staion. It’s a real mirror that reflects socieatal issues each passing day; and you Carol, you move to the Programme Manager Post

  • Erastus

Caroline Mutoko’s presentation style is unique and deserves credit. I LOVE IT!

  • Tush

Caroline is utterly disgusting and so opinionated. She lacks professionalisms and contrary to her expectations very few get to know about her un called for criiticism of the government. she is out of touch.

  • Well Caroline, she is too big to describe, but i can say that she is too articulate,so versed with the life of Mkenya, and most of all Nairobians,
She is also a really scary bitch,a real feminist ready to pounce on any male who dares to cross her path,no wonder at 35 she is still single and i bet she’ll be single forever.Ever wondered why Caro and Martha never get along well, like poles repel don’t they? But i Love her a lot,When the story of Kenya and journalism,as well as politics will be written her name will be there.Kudos Karo.

    hii caro,

I want to be very honest with you because honesty is the best policy.Your show is the most listened to both in cosmopolitan and in rural areas. As youth of this country,we rely on sports for survival. In view of this, kindly help youth in setting up youth football academies by linking our youth with Qartar officials/SCOUTS due to arrive.Have a live interview with them for the gain of our youth. Thanks alot.
    yours george

    😮
Hi Caroline, regardless of what Kenyan people say, still you remain the best breakfast show presenter ever heard in our local radio stations. Kenyans we like hiding issues like sexual and abortion as if they don’t happen. Thanks very much for taking that blindness away and addressing these issues openly. Your show is part of my diet!! Be there for us who want the truth of matters tackled.

  • well, i really don’t have a problem with Caroline per se but Kiss FM’s broadcast policies and objectives. radio is a business alright and ratings (read tune-ins) is what matters. however, i have a problem with the approach to issues, the language and the attitude. radio’s function(or any mass media for that matter) is not limited to that what KISS exhibits-there are an array of others unchartered yet. Caroline reflects a bitter society that thinks that any means necessary are the only necessary means. civility should be central to media business and we sure do lacj=k much of it for the sake of making more money…

😆 once you become a public figure you are bound to have a back log of what we call fans and haters. after reading some of the opinions your fans and haters have written i guess you always have to look over your shoulder when you are walking up and down the streets of nairobi. not everyone can do wahtever you do and personally i think you are great though you still need to follow the ethics of proffesional journalism. this will keep you out of harms way especialy from martha karua’s claws. so rock it babie but you need to get a man for heave’ns sake gravity tends to be very harsh as the years pass by.

  • Baba Chris

I for one cannot stand for someone spewing divisive and inflamatory rhetoric and trying to pass it off as the opinion of the masses. If you have an opinion and feel strongly about it please for heavens sake stand up and be counted. Quit hiding behind a microphone in a sealed booth yelling “WE Kenyans” when it is quite obvious that not all of us share your opinion!

As a radio presenter, she actually does not have the mandate to have an opinion. Her job, if i am to understand correctly, is to entertain not to politic, that as commented on above is just not responsible journalism.

It is interesting to note how quickly the so called liberal thinking Caroline thears into anyone that does not conform to her rigid, and more often than not, misguided ideals!

    may God Bless You Carol.
You have helped change the lives of many people.I am touched by the most recent in which yo helped a lady get a kidney transplant.we should have more of carols in kenya.
please settle down and have a family hen you will see all these blessings reflect upon them. Dont let your charm, kindness and selfless character vanish with you.pass it on!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Carol.

I bet yours is the most enjoyable job in the world. I love listening to you.Do you remember when you first reported ‘on air’ before 6.00 AM? Well, me i know. When you were having the colgate big box thing. You were on air by 05.30 AM. That was the earliset time you have been on air at KISS FM. Does that tell you how much a fan I am for your show with the ‘clone’? Keep it up.

found in this planet, now that i relocated to a foriegn country,i still enjoy ur programmes through on-line.people should stop critisizing u and instead support u on ur the wonderful job u are doing.i tell u bravo caro.may God reward u on thr good job u are doing.

  • blogtid

I have read all these responses. I have listened to Caroline Mutoko. She is fun and quite interesting, but also very unproffesional.

Her critisism of politician is sensetioanal, fiery but quite uninformed and unresearched…like any angy jamaa in a matatu. She should read/ find outmore beyond press briefs…

Once she was talking about how “stupid” the Luo people are for believing in a culture where a man takes care of a dead brother’s wife. She called to talk to some famous Luo Prof about it on air, but she could even ask how that arrangement works.

I am not Luo, I dont know how that arrangement works but her discussion wasn’t any informative. She ended by chest thumping her efforts to rid Nyanza off the Aids epidemic.

I thought she could have done better than that.

  • zippy

  • kieran

    😕
when all is said and done, caroline mutoko is the best presenter on the Kenyan radio scene. she is intelligent , mature, objective and real. listen to her interviews to different people on different issues.EXCELLENT STUFF. not the shallowness you w’d find elsewhere (even from other presenters on same station). she also sounds very down to earth. (forget the capital FM days). tis no surprise her show is favorite even in rural kenya, and other ‘ordinary wananchi’ in the city.
