Congratulations!

This is a bit off-topic but is there a reason why nobody is talking about the recent rash of city-council's razing of honest, hardworking people's businesses - kiosks and such - so that they can supposedly "plant flowers and make Nairobi beautiful"? I can't imagine that increasing the ranks of bitter, unemployed families in Nairobi will do much to improve safety within city limits and in fact, pushed to extremes, even I would turn to a life of street begging or crime.

It really sickens me that the richest in Kenya barely pay taxes while the poor are constantly being finywad more and more. With the shockingly high price of food (Unga is now 120 shillings!), how are the majority of Kenyans surviving? I'm all for making Nairobi "beautiful" but let us start by humanizing it's residents and giving all Kenyans a chance to survive.

Honestly, this government is Pathetic!

Am I alone in feeling this frustrated? The most I can do is try to patronize as many of these small business owners as possible - hard to do, and incovenient, but we need to think about what could be done at a larger scale. Perhaps the government should consider subsidizing the price of staple foods so that our neighbors aren't dying of starvation. But at the very least, they should allow enterprising Kenyans to try to make an honest living.

GRRRR.
