I’m back up

Posted by Ory Okolloh in kenyaelection07

Have been unable to post or moderate comments today. Not sure what the issue was since my bandwidth is not close to being exceeded.

Got paranoid and thought that the govt was blocking me, but would like to think that the local ISP I’m using has just been overwhelmed with the traffic.

Off to get the comments up. Might have to shut comments down completely to ensure I have access.

In the meantime you can email tips, stories, leads, death tolls, news, etc to: kenyanpundit-at-gmail.com

Thanks for staying tuned.

Thanks very much for the consistent updates you have been putting up on your blog. I was a bit worried when I could not get updates on your blog. I also do not know what we would have been doing to get the information. At the moment I am very sad and angry that things could turn into what we are seeing now. I know if I write now I wont be objective, so I will chill to sober up. As I write though, my whole family is stranded somewhere in Kuresoi, with no means of moving out of that place and the situation doesnt seem to get better by the hour. It is time like this that I wish what we as a nation will are going through is just a rare dream that will be forgot when I wake up. A wish.

I am a Kenyan and proud to be. Thats why I will stand up against a flawed process.

If you believe you deserve to know the truth, stand up and be counted. Say it loud, put your name here …

I just returned from Kenya and what is happening is truly shocking to me. A peaceful and democratic process, that was on its way to sending the president and most of his cabinet packing, was simply derailed. This is not a tribal issue but a simple question of accountability and transparency. Lets not be so cynical as to believe Africans are incapable of choosing their own leaders in free and fair elections.

Since the news blackout I have been relying on CNN International and the NY Times, which ran this article that I believe, despite its unfortunate title, to be comprehensive and accurate based on my experience in Kenya up until Sunday.

0 steps forward, 1 million steps backward.

Especially since the US officials publicly announce that they, once again, support a dictatorship in favour of democracy. What people around the world must know is that one person would have brought change to that: Barack Obama. Vote for change 2008!

This is horrible. I’ve been hearing gunshots all day - the Prestige Plaza Nakumatt and Ngong Road Uchumi appear to have been looted (I could hear the mob of people - haven’t ventured out to see it yet), and I could hear fairly heavy gunfire throughout. I only expect the death toll to climb as the day goes on.
