The Alchemist

This article cracked me up. I should have learned not to succumb to books that are way too popular after my underwhelming experience with the Da Vinci Code, but succumb to the Alchemist I did. After I finished reading the book, I couldn’t help but be upset that I’d wasted my limited casual reading time on it…did I miss something?

Ory, Laurence Fishburne is turning The Alchemist into a movie as well. The book has been translated into 56 languages in more than 150 countries! As for the movie, the guys involved are describing it as “Harry Potter meets Indiana Jones” . It was an easygoing read, I hope the movie doesn’t mess it up.

I read 20 pages and gave up, lamenting my ever-worsening ADD…it’s good to know it wasn’t just me. And I will NOT be watching the movie - apologies to Larry (oops, Laurence!) Fishbourne.

As long as you dont watch “The Secret”, everything will be fine
(i liked that book btw, not necessarily because of its basic messages, but because of its slim size.)

I have wanted to read this book for a while now but have never really got around to it. Part of the appeal for me also lies in its slim size. This I might still give it a go

Such is life on the simple message but “larger than life” books like The Secret.
However, I must say that the Alchemist was a pleasant read for me. And for about 3 or 4 months after reading it I think it changed my life, cant say what happened after that part though-I like Paulo Coello’s writing and theme of listening to one’s dreams.
Anyhow, sorry it didnt sit well with you.

Hee hee! Nope, you didn’t miss a thing (I wondered too, when I read it)
